As a PAL (Peer-Assisted Learning) Leader at Clemson University, I helped students succeed in a course I had already taken and done well in. My job was to attend the class each week so I could stay up to date with the material, and then I held two study sessions outside of class for students who wanted extra help.

During the sessions, I guided group activities to review important topics, explain hard concepts, and show helpful study strategies. I didn’t re-teach the class but helped students work together and think through the material. I also worked closely with the professor to make sure my sessions matched what was being taught in class.

I had to complete training to prepare for the role, including enrolling in a one-credit course my first semester as a PAL Leader. The experience helped me improve my communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. It also felt great to support other students and be part of a positive learning environment.

SI Leader

As a Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader at Tri-County Technical College (TCTC), I facilitated peer-led study sessions to support students in challenging courses. My role involved attending the assigned class to stay current with the material and conducting two to three weekly review sessions, either in-person or virtually.

In these sessions, I guided students through collaborative activities to enhance their understanding of course content. Additionally, I participated in weekly Community of Practice meetings and managed administrative tasks, such as submitting attendance records and lesson plans on time.

To qualify for this position, I maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA, earned an 'A' in the relevant course, and completed required training, including enrolling in a one-credit CU 1110 class during my first semester as an SI Leader. This experience allowed me to develop leadership and communication skills while contributing to the academic success of my peers.
